Matematikos ir fizikos mokslų taikymas įvairiose šiandien aktualiose srityse – biomedicinos, didžiųjų duomenų, finansų, medžiagų, mikro- ir nanotechnologijų ir tarpkryptiniai tyrimai, vykdomi pagal su įvairiomis temomis susijusi mokslų kryptis: informatika, mechanikos inžinerija, fizika, chemija, chemijos inžinerija, medžiagų inžinerija, tiek Lietuvoje, tiek visame pasaulyje skatina pažangą, plečia aukštųjų technologijų pramonę.
Padalinio vykdomi taikomieji tyrimai, tarpdisciplininiai nacionaliniai ir tarptautiniai projektai, kuriami nauji metodai, modeliai ir technologijos, analizės ir kitos paslaugos tenkina valstybės ir verslo poreikius, sudaro sąlygas jauniesiems mokslininkams įsitraukti į mokslinę veiklą, tapti naujų mokslo grupių lyderiais.
Fakulteto mokslininkai kuria sprendimus įvairiose ūkio šakose veikiančiam verslui, yra patikimas partneris nacionaliniu ir tarptautiniu lygmeniu.
Fakulteto mokslininkai aktyviai dalyvauja COST, NATO, EU H2020, EUREKA, CONRAM, CliniMARK veikloje, kartu su partneriais iš viso pasaulio vykdo mokslinius projektus.

Atliekami tyrimai yra aktualūs, įvairiapusiški ir pasižymintys tarpkryptiškumu. Moksliniai rezultatai viešinami tarptautinėse konferencijose, publikuojami prestižiniuose aukštus citavimo indeksus turinčiuose žurnaluose. Mokslininkai yra įvairių mokslo leidinių redakcijos komisijose.
Fakultetas organizuoja nacionalines ir tarptautines konferencijas, kurių dėka yra skatinamas bendradarbiavimas tarp institucijų ir mokslininkų, dalijamasi mokslo pasiekimais ir atliekamais tyrimais, taip skatinant mokslo populiarinimą, vystymą ir pažangą. KTU MGMF orgazinuojami mokslo renginiai:
Fakulteto Fizikos katedra kartu su HITACHI korporacija ir Tokijo technologijų institutu (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 metais) organizavo branduolinės inžinerijos kursus, kurių metu buvo aptariami ir nagrinėjami tiek Lietuvoje, tiek ir likusiame pasaulyje aktualūs branduolinės energetikos, saugos ir technologijų klausimai.
2017 metais fakultetas startavo su unikaliomis Lietuvoje ir Baltijos šalyse industrinės matematikos dirbtuvėmis, kurių metu mokslininkai matematiniais metodais sprendžia verslo ir pramonės problemas. Šiuo renginiu yra plečiamas ir skatinamas mokslo ir verslo bendradarbiavimas, mokslininkų metodai integruojami į konkrečias realias įmonių situacijas.
